Synopsis and Objectives
|
If you have a vision but don't know how to "reelize" it, this program could be for you. Do you have an idea for a film or television program, or do you want to learn more about the production process? The FilmFLEX program at BCIT will teach you the basics of production and post production using the latest in digital technology. You'll also learn about all the business aspects of the film industry - once you have your program completed, how do you market your vision?
FilmFLEX is a part-time "Flex" program. Flex programs at BCIT are designed for learning convenience, by offering the courses over half the week.
Total course load is 27 hours per week. The program is divided into 4 equal terms over 12 months, with short breaks between terms. Total program length is 52 weeks, with 48 weeks of instruction within that time. The fourth level includes a practicum and concentration on production of the final student project, plus an extensive business planning course. FilmFLEX is designed for those individuals who have a demonstrated interest in film, television and/or digital post production, and who want to work in a self-directed environment.
FilmFLEX is an innovative program, one of the first of its kind in Canada. The curriculum is presented in a hands-on, interactive format that stresses "learning by doing", led by industry professionals. It focuses on technical training plus business skills. Graduates of the program will have completed a "calling card video" by the end of the program, which they can use to open doors in the film and television industry.
